Supporting local businesses has been crucial to our community during the pandemic.
Buying locally grown “farm to table” food also helps support our amazing local farmers. Here’s some food for thought:
Nutritious
Minimizing transportation reduces damage and helps produce retain its nutritional value.
Greener
Transporting food long distances is detrimental to the environment as it requires extra packaging and fuel emissions.
Tastier
With no need for long-distance travel, produce is picked at peak freshness so it's loaded (pardon the pun) with taste.
Preservation
Buying locally grown food helps protect farmland and wildlife from sprawling urban development.
Convenient
Many neighbourhoods have agricultural groups that provide a weekly box of fresh, locally grown produce that can often times be delivered right to your door!
So there you have it – buying local is miles better!
For a fun day out take in local Farmer's Markets in the area Red Deer-Gasoline Alley indoor farmer's market year round-Friday/Saturday/Sunday- 9:00-5:00 pm; Sylvan Lake- Fridays-4:00-7:30 pm; Blackfalds- 4:00-7:30 pm; Lacombe- Fridays- 9:00-1:00 pm to name a few OR visit a “pick your own” fruit farm. Not only will you be able to eat the tastiest fruit around but you'll also help the environment by cutting down on packaging.
This is the best time of the year for fresh produce! We are so blessed here in the Central Alberta Area.
For Another fun day out ,why not take in Kraay's Family Farm that includes a corn maze and many other activities to enjoy? The whole family will have a blast. Take a look at the video we have included, then set a date on your calendar to go and enjoy the adventures that it has to offer your family.
